چکیده
Haptophytes are emerging as sustainable sources of high-value metabolites such polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). The goal this work was to isolate a native haptophyte from the southwestern Atlantic coast and evaluate effect low-temperature stress on concentration PUFAs, sterols, pigments during its cultivation. strain identified Pavlova gyrans. Cultures were carried out in photobioreactor for 10 days at 20 °C (Control), lowering culture temperature beginning stationary growth phase (LTS). lipid content biomass represented 13% dry weight, neutral lipids being main fraction. Under LTS, increased significantly, reaching value 305 mg L−1. same observed with PUFAs content, which 41.3% total acids. most abundant omega-3 (ω3) omega-6 (ω6) eicosapentaenoic (EPA) docosapentaenoic (DPA), respectively. under LTS reached 6.65 L−1 3.59 corresponded ω3 3.06 ω6. EPA 2.82 while that DPA 1.59 maximum phytosterols obtained exponential phase. phytosterol 24-ethylcholesta-5,22-dien-3β-ol, ≈41–49% free sterol fraction, volumetric ≈320 μg Finally, ≈700 These results open way further progress towards commercial profitable cultivation P. gyrans food aquaculture applications.

Bioconverted products of essential fatty acids as potential antimicrobial agents.
This review deals with the recent findings on the microbial conversion of essential fatty acids (EFAs) through Pseudomonas aeruginosa PR3 NRRL-B-18602, and the antimicrobial properties of bioconverted EFAs, with particular emphasis on n-3 or n-6 fatty acids. The first section deals with the most recent and some background literature on which have been the latest developments with respect to bio...
متن کاملChlorella vulgaris as a Source of Essential Fatty Acids and Micronutrients: A Brief Commentary
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) comprise about 35-40% of the total lipid content from green algae Chlorella, reaching up to 24% linoleic acid and 27% α-linolenic acid in C. vulgaris. Also, microalgae nutrient composition may be modulated by changes in the culture medium, increasing fatty acid and microelement concentrations in the algae biomass. PUFAs, such as αlinolenic (n-3) and linoleic ...

متن کاملDetermination of pitaya seeds as a natural antioxidant and source of essential fatty acids
The antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content of seeds of three types of pitaya namely Hylocereus polyrhizus, Hylocereus undatus and Selenicereus megalanthus and the fatty acid content of pitaya seeds oil were examined in this study. The ethanolic extracts of H. polyrhizus seeds showed significantly high (p<0.05) total phenolic (43.9 mg GAE/100g dry weight) and flavonoid (50.8 mg CAE /100...
